For the past 19 years, AECF has educated the Southeast's business community on e-business and e-commerce topics, including electronic data interchange (EDI), electronic storefronts, electronic payments, web applications, web-based supply chain integration, and other web technologies. Each month, information technology, sales, marketing and other professionals gather to network with each other, enjoy a meal, and listen to a presentation covering new technologies, case studies or solutions. Attendee titles range from president, director, manager, project leader, systems analyst, developer, account manager, sales representative and EDI manager. But, all share the same common goals:

  • To enhance businesses through education and a better understanding of e-business, e-commerce and business strategies
  • To cultivate relationships among the business community to promote the use of e-business
  • To share experiences and exchange ideas that may aid member companies in the implementation and growth of e-business programs
  • To inform and educate the business community regarding e-business issues

One night in 1989 at a local Atlanta tavern, three local EDI managers from Fortune 500 companies met to share the day's events. After hearing about the trials and tribulations of running EDI systems and dealing with trading partners, they determined that a metro area user group was needed to network and share knowledge. The organization was originally known as the Atlanta EDI Business Forum. Later, the name was changed to the Atlanta Electronic Commerce Forum to reflect the diverse nature of its members. In 2007, in recognition that both terms -- e-business and e-commerce -- are often used interchangeably, AECF expanded its mission statement, goals, and tag line to more accurately represent the scope of the topics covered. AECF is a non-profit organization run by a board of directors who volunteer their time each month. These individuals run, promote, and market the forum because it makes good business sense to affiliate with other e-business professionals.
